Our Mission
Oisín's Story
Oisín is our beautiful son who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2019.
After Oisín’s diagnosis our family spent a lot of time in hospital between scans, surgeries and chemotherapy. Around this time a little wagtail bird used to regularly visit our back garden and, during the precious time when Oisín was at home, he loved to sit in his highchair at the backdoor and wave to our little friend, that we named Sal, fluttering around the garden.
Heartbreakingly Oisín died in 2020 at the age of two. Now every time we see a wagtail, we think of our Oisín and how much joy he brought in his all-too-short stay.
Oisín's journey was the inspiration for us to create the RareBird project.
The Product
Our birds are made of a special type of steel called COR-TEN® steel. COR-TEN® steel is a type of decorative weathering steel which is resistant to the corrosive effects of the outdoor elements. Over time it develops a dark brown layer of oxidation which protects the underlying steel.
Once placed outdoors you will notice the protective layer develop over several weeks and it will continue to deepen in colour over time.
The sharp point of the branch of your RareBird can be hammered into a tree, a wooden fence or wooden post in your garden or outdoor space.
Our Selected Charities
The team at LauraLynn provide invaluable support to children and their families in the most difficult of times.
In Oisín's final weeks LauraLynn gave us the gift of comfort and support to allow us to focus on spending quality time together as a family.
Cancer Fund for Children's aim is to empower, connect and strengthen families, so they feel equipped to deal with whatever cancer throws at them.
As part of their work they provide therapeutic short breaks in their Daisy Lodge facility in Co. Down and are developing a similar facility in Cong, Co. Mayo. A place that holds a special significance to our family.
